Most water-saving gadgets are junk. Plastic aerators that crack in a month. Shower timers with buttons that stick. I’ve tested dozens over the years, and the pattern holds: the cheaper the promise, the faster it breaks. But a handful of devices actually earn their place in a minimalist home. They cut your bill, they last, … Read more
Most smart speakers are dumb purchases. You pay for a glowing orb that plays music worse than a $30 Bluetooth puck and answers half your questions with “Sorry, I didn’t catch that.” I’ve tested dozens over the years. Returned more than I kept. Landed on a simple rule: buy the speaker whose best feature you’ll … Read more

Blackout curtains from a clearance bin. Then they wonder why they wake up at 3 a.m. staring at the ceiling. … Read more
Most standing desks are furniture. A few are tools. The difference shows up around month eight, when the motor on a cheap frame starts grinding and the laminate top you loved has a coffee ring that won’t lift. I’ve tested 31 desks since 2023. Returned 14. In 2026, the market has split cleanly: desks built … Read more
